ANYTONE AT-D878UVII Plus
When I first unboxed the AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus, I knew it wasn't your average handheld. But I’ll be honest—as TB7AEK, diving into the programming side of this radio was both exciting and a bit overwhelming at first. Thankfully, once you get past the initial learning curve, it becomes clear that this radio was designed for operators who crave full control over their gear.

🔧 Programming the AT-D878UVII Plus: A Flexible Beast for the Dedicated Ham
When I first unboxed the AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus, I knew it wasn't your average handheld. But I’ll be honest—as TB7AEK, diving into the programming side of this radio was both exciting and a bit overwhelming at first. Thankfully, once you get past the initial learning curve, it becomes clear that this radio was designed for operators who crave full control over their gear.
🖥️ CPS Software: More Than Just a Config Tool
The Customer Programming Software (CPS) provided by AnyTone is the brain behind this radio. Yes, it looks intimidating at first glance—with tabs for Zones, Channels, Talkgroups, Scan Lists, Roaming Profiles, Digital Contacts, and more—but once you get the hang of it, you’ll appreciate the depth and flexibility it offers.
I personally have my radio programmed with:
Multiple DMR talkgroups, including TG 202 (DMR Türkiye), TG 91 (Worldwide), and regional repeaters.
Custom zones for analog and digital operations.
Dedicated scan lists for monitoring simplex frequencies.
A roaming profile that switches between my favorite repeaters seamlessly while mobile.
🧠 Smart Memory Management
One thing that really stands out is the memory handling. With support for up to 3,000 channels, 10,000 talkgroups, and 300,000 digital contacts, this radio never says “no” to your growth as an operator. You want to monitor DMR-MARC, BrandMeister, TGIF, and still have room for your local repeaters and simplex freqs? No problem.
🚀 Power Features Hidden in the Menus
What truly amazed me is the number of features packed into this device that you unlock via the CPS:
APRS customization (yes, it can beacon your position!)
PTT-specific TG overrides
Bluetooth PTT support and settings
Voice prompts and custom power-on messages (Mine proudly says: "TB7AEK ready to transmit!")
✍️ My Advice to Fellow Hams
If you're planning to get this radio, invest time in learning the CPS. Read a few guides, watch YouTube tutorials, and don't be afraid to experiment. Once configured, this radio becomes an extension of your shack, in your pocket.
Whether you're an experienced ham looking to upgrade or a digital newcomer eager to explore the world of DMR, the AT-D878UVII Plus is a powerhouse with a learning curve that pays off. And trust me—as someone who's constantly tweaking and optimizing my gear, this radio delivers the control and performance I expect from professional-grade equipment.
